What are feminised seeds?
Feminized seeds are cannabis seeds that genetically speaking produce only female plants.
Genetically, a cannabis plant is more or less predisposed to become male or female. This is determined by two chromosomes, which everyone knows as the X and Y chromosomes.
A plant with two X chromosomes becomes female. A plant with an X and a Y chromosome becomes male.
Feminized seeds are made by forcing a female plant to produce male flowers through a special treatment. This actually makes the female plant a hermaphrodite and makes it possible to produce seeds that only have XX or female chromosomes.
Before these seeds can actually be sold as feminized, years of testing and breeding continue to take place to ensure that they produce plants that are absolutely stable and consistent.
